Onigiri, Japanese rice ball

Onigiri are rice balls stuffed some ingredient, vegetable or fish mainly. In Japan they are consumed as snacks and the truth is that by following just a few small steps are very easy to prepare.

Usually you can find the various forms: ositos, balls, triangles,… We have prepared the cube-shaped with a contraption for it, but you can make balls with your hands perfectly.

INGREDIENTS

  • 250g rice rice Round pump.
  • 250 ml of water.
  • Nori seaweed strips.
  • will.
  • Avocado, carrot, flaked salmon, … or ingredient that you elijáis. We have prepared avocado. (Medium avocado has given us everything.)

 

PREPARATION

The most important thing is the preparation of rice, remove fine starch then get sticky and stay cooking. Well just follow these steps, but they are very simple:

To withdraw the starch what we will wash rice. We water and rice in a pot, stir and clarified, and so several times until the water is clear. Approximately will have to repeat this operation 5-6 times. In the picture below you can see how the water in the first washing and how it looks in the last.

Rice cooking:

  1. put the 250 ml of water with 250g of rice in a pot to a boil strong.
  2. Once it starts to boil put the lid on the pan and over low heat for 10 minutes.
  3. After this time, remove from heat and without opening the cover, rice left resting for 15 minutes.
  4. Once past the 15 minutes, we can open the lid. We split the rice on a tray (preferably wood) and let cool to room temperature.

Preparation of onigiri:

  1. Prepare a bowl of water and another container with salt. Before picking up the rice balls, we get wet hands in the water and then we will take a little salt and rub hands us.
  2. We take some rice and pressed against the palm of your hand, leaving a gap for filling.
  3. We fill the ingredient we have chosen, in this case a piece of avocado, on rice we have in hand.
  4. We take another little rice and put it on top of the above pressing well and at the same time giving the way we want, either a ball or whatever we find it easier.
  5. We put a piece of nori like decoration. If we have given triangular shape we can put it on the base. In our case we have been around the bucket strip alga.

And now they are ready to serve our onigiris, along with a little soy sauce, for example.

Note: With this amount of rice, we have come 18 parts onigiri, although this will also depend on the size we give them.
